Little Elm Alerts | Roofing Permits | Door-to-Door Solicitors

Published: March 19, 2024

Many of Valencia on the Lake HOA residents experienced property damage due to last week's storm. The Town of Little Elm Permitting Manager asked me to share some info regarding Solicitors, Roofing, Contractors, etc.

Solicitors

    • If solicitors come to your home, they must have a town-issued physical badge "in plain view."
    • This badge does not endorse the solicitation by the Town of Little Elm or any of its officers or employees.
    • Solicitation hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. until sunset. No solicitation is allowed on Sundays.
    • If you do not want door-to-door solicitors at your home, you can put up a sign not less than three inches by four inches in size with the words "no advertisements," "no solicitation," or "no handbills" to indicate that the occupants of such premises do not want to have their right of privacy disturbed or to have a handbill of any type left upon the premises. The card must also bear "Town Ordinance ch. 26. VI". The letters on such cards shall be at least two-thirds of an inch in height.
    • Any merchant or person who has gained entrance to the premises or audiences with the occupant, whether invited or not, shall immediately depart from the premises without disturbing the occupant further when requested to leave by the occupant.
    • ZipIt Postal does sell No Solicitation Signs with the Town Ordinance 26.VI on them if residents want a plastic sign.
    • I've also attached a handy guide for residents and a picture of what a solicitor badge looks like.

Roofs

    • A permit is required to replace a roof. Homeowners may perform the work, but a permit is still necessary.
    • A final inspection is required within 10 days of completion of the work. This usually includes an attic inspection to inspect venting.
    • - If you live in a homeowner's association (HOA), you may be required to submit an Architectural Review Committee (ARC) form for HOA approval. If needed, you must provide proof of ARC approval to the Town before the Town approves your permit to begin work.
    • Drip edges are required. Ice barriers are not required.
    • Per 2018 IRC Sec R908.3.1 with adopted amendments, A roof re-cover shall not be permitted where any of the following conditions occur:
    - Where the existing roof or roof covering is water-soaked or has deteriorated to the point that the existing roof or roof covering is not adequate as a base for additional roofing.
    - Where the existing roof covering is wood, slate, clay, cement, or asbestos-cement tile.
    - Where the existing roof has two or more applications of any roof covering.
    - For asphalt shingles, when the building is located in an area subject to moderate or severe hail exposure, according to Figure R908.3.1.1 below:

Contractors

Contractors MUST be registered with the Town. You can look up contractor registrations here: https://public.mygov.us/little_elm_tx/templates?module=reports.
